I walk head down in this gentle darkness and healing rain
hoping it can wash all of this rust away
i think it’s time to embrace the state of constant change

my world is melting into little streams
I’ll follow the water wherever it leads
it must go somewhere, far or near
someplace I’ll find something true
and it won’t remind me of you

I stopped taking pictures for awhile
I was too caught up in trying to make you smile
plus these nights would last forever I was sure
I wouldn’t need reminders of those perfect hours

so I have six photographs of you that I won’t delete from my phone
from river walks, and drunken nights and countless hours that we talked
of everything from drugs to scars and rings
and the human addiction to brief intimate knowing
I think you were briefly addicted to getting to know me

you left a permanent signature on my body
the perfect reminder of the ways you’ll always haunt me
are there now scars where there used to be scabs
on the tops of both of your feet.
